Quick answer
The 30MP ENIA model kit is a straightforward Bandai figure kit that benefits from careful nub removal, optional panel lining, and a few simple customization tricks to make it stand out.
Why the 30MP ENIA is a great starting point
The 30MP ENIA is designed for builders who enjoy assembling and customizing their own figures. It offers a straightforward building experience without complex inner frames, making it ideal for hobbyists and Gunpla enthusiasts who want a quick, satisfying project.
Because the kit uses standard plastic runners, you can easily paint, panel line, or add decals. The simple construction also means fewer small parts to lose, which is a plus for beginners.
What to keep in mind before you start
This kit does not include paint or tools. You will need a hobby nipper, a hobby knife or file, and optionally panel lining markers or paints. The plastic is standard Bandai PS/ABS, so acrylic or enamel paints work well.
The 30MP ENIA has some visible seam lines on the arms and legs. If you want a cleaner look, plan to sand and cement those seams before painting.
Step-by-step build and customization guide
- 1. Prepare your workspace and tools: Lay out all runners and check the instruction sheet. Use a sharp hobby nipper to cut parts from the gate, leaving a small nub. Trim the nub flush with a hobby knife or file. A common mistake is cutting too close to the part, which can gouge the plastic. Leave 1–2 mm of gate and trim carefully.
- 2. Assemble the body sub-assemblies: Follow the manual to build the head, torso, arms, and legs separately. Do not snap them together yet. This makes sanding and painting easier. Check part orientation before pressing pieces together. Once snapped, some joints are very tight and hard to separate without damage.
- 3. Sand seam lines and nub marks: Use 400–600 grit sandpaper to smooth seam lines and nub marks. For a glossy finish, progress to 800–1000 grit. Wipe dust off with a damp cloth. Sanding too aggressively can thin or warp thin parts like the hands or antenna. Use light pressure and sand in one direction.
- 4. Panel line and detail (optional): Apply panel liner or a fine-tip marker to engraved lines. Wipe excess with a cotton swab dipped in lighter fluid or enamel thinner. Add decals if desired. Do not panel line over bare plastic without a topcoat first—the liner can seep into cracks and weaken the plastic over time.
- 5. Paint and customize (optional): Prime the parts with a light gray or white primer. Use acrylic or enamel paints for base colors. For a weathered look, dry-brush silver on edges. Thin your paints to a milk-like consistency. Thick paint hides detail and leaves brush strokes. Two thin coats are better than one thick coat.
- 6. Final assembly and posing: Snap all sub-assemblies together. Pose the figure by adjusting the ball joints and swivels. Use a clear acrylic stand for dynamic poses. Ball joints can be tight. If a joint feels stuck, apply a tiny drop of silicone lubricant or gently sand the ball. Forcing it may snap the peg.
